Los Angeles is a dozen landscapes in one city: coastal bluffs, canyon hillsides, flat historic districts, and the warm inland valleys, each with its own light, soil, and rules. Orchard designs, builds, and cares for private gardens across the city, from Santa Monica and the Palisades to Beverly Hills, the Hollywood Hills, Hancock Park, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, and the near San Fernando Valley.
We are a studio-led design-build firm. One team carries the project from the first site walk through construction and into long-term care, working closely with architects and homeowners so the garden and the house are one idea.

Every garden we build starts with the site: exposure, slope, soil, water, and how the house sits on the land. From there we shape outdoor rooms that get used daily and planting that belongs to this climate: California natives and Mediterranean species that stay green on modest water, arranged with the structure and finish of an estate garden.
Hillside lots are planned under the city’s hillside ordinance with drainage and retaining designed alongside the planting. Fire-zone properties get defensible space built into the composition. Historic districts like Hancock Park get gardens that respect the street and the architecture.
One team, start to finish
Design, project management, and ongoing care are all in-house. We prepare drawings, manage permitting with LADBS and the independent cities, coordinate trades and engineers, and stay on after the build to keep the garden to its intended standard.

Do you design and build, or only design?
Both, plus ongoing care. One team carries the project from concept through construction and maintenance.
Do you handle permits?
Yes. We manage submittals and inspections with the City of Los Angeles and the independent cities such as Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood.

Our gardens range from California native and Mediterranean to modern and formal, always tuned to the architecture and the site.
